History of our Corps
Hamilton has had army cadets since 1863. This first corps began
parading in the Central Public School and was known as the Central Public School Cadet
Corps.
The 2814 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps is divided into two
Companies. Formed on 18 November 1967 by Major R. Johnson, CD, Hamilton Company is
affiliated to the 23 (Hamilton) Service Battalion and parades at CFRB Hamilton. Caledonia
Company, also referred to as the Lt Col John McCrae Caledonia Satellite Company, was
formed in June 1982 by Maj E. Butson, CD and is affiliated to the 23 (Hamilton) Medical
Company and parades from the Caledonia Legion.
While both companies are considered to be part of the same unit, The 2814 (Hamilton) Service Battalion Land Cadet Corps, their training takes a definite slant towards the training of their affiliated units. Caledonia Company conducts optional training in first aid and attends exercises conducted by 23 Medical Company. Hamilton Company conducts optional training with 23 Service Battalion during their exercises. This training is specific to the function of a Service Battalion.
