| The Scuba Team was set up during our 1999 - 2000 training year to provide senior cadets with an optional activity that provided a meaningful, interesting real world experience they could use outside of cadets while also serving to maintain senior cadet interest in the cadet program by providing them with a challenging activity that builds self discipline and teamwork. |

In 2000 five divers were open water certified by PADI

In 2001 five divers were open water certified by ACUC

In 2002 two divers were advanced open water certified by ACUC

In 2006 three divers were open water certified by ACUC

To be eligible to participate in Scuba Training a cadet must meet the following criteria:
Be 15 years of age before April 1 of the year of training.
Be Qualified Level 2 (Red Star)
Be able to swim 18 lengths of a 25 meter pool (City pool) non stop without touching the bottom of the pool using any stroke except the back stroke.
Be able to swim 25 meters underwater
Be able to tread water for 5 minutes (3 min using hands and feet, 1 min using just hands, 1 min using just feet)
Be able to complete a 1km run in 8 min
Be able to do 40 push ups
Be able to do 50 Sit Ups
Be able to do 6 Regular Chin Ups
Have demonstrated a good and positive attitude and a team spirit.
Be Recommended by the Commanding Officer.
Be medically fit as set out by the certifying organization.
Cadets must attend ALL components of the Scuba Training Course:
* Classroom Training and Testing
* Pool Confined Dive Training and Testing
*Open Water Dive Testing (2 Days)
Cadets participating in training will receive their course for free, paid for by the corps. There are only FIVE positions annually available to cadets on the Open Water Dive Course. They are required to purchase the following items: Dive mask and snorkel, Dive Boots (Recommended), Fins, Weight Belt with 10 lbs weight. Diving is an expensive sport and equipment will normally cost around $200 - $250.00 or more depending on the quality purchased.
Following certification scuba adventures are organized for our cadets by the scuba coordinator. Cadets are required to pay for equipment rentals and air and the corps picks up transportation costs and overnight campsite costs. Food will also be funded by the corps under normal circumstances.
